Industry Internship Programme

The Industry Internship Programme extends the Academy's Summer Research Fellowship model by connecting bright students and motivated teachers with Fellows of the Academy and selected industry partners for research-oriented projects.

Programme Model

Summer Fellowship foundation

Summer Fellowships are awarded to bright students and motivated teachers to work with Fellows of the Academy on research-oriented projects. Starting in 1995, this program has grown enormously in size and reputation.

Announcements inviting applications appear on the websites of all the three major Science Academies of India, namely IASc, INSA and NASI, as well as in popular science journals and other media around October.

Selection and timing

Candidates are shortlisted by the three-Academies' Science Education Panel Selection Committee comprising senior scientists, industry experts and educators from around the country.

Selected applicants are notified by February-March, and undergo the internship during May-July.

Applications are announced through Academy websites, journals, and other media.

February-March

Selected candidates are notified after the Science Education Panel selection process.

May-July

Internships are undertaken with Fellows, laboratories, and partner settings.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)

The TCS team select a few candidates from a longlist sent by tAcT, who then undergo the program at TCS Pune.

IISc-Axis Bank Centre for Mathematics & Computing

Starting from 2023, the IISc-Axis Bank Centre for Maths & Computing is partnering with The Academy Trust to sponsor around 20 candidates who would undergo the SRF program at the Indian Institute of Science at labs of all disciplines.

The MoU between tAcT and TCS was renewed during 2023-24, extending it up to 2026. During 2023 no candidates were able to take up the internship for various reasons.

IISc-Axis Bank Centre for Mathematics & Computing

During 2023, nineteen B.Tech candidates from different institutes across India were selected for this prestigious initiative and worked on various projects in different IISc labs.
